Dave Lewis was born and raised in the southern San Francisco Bay Area. Knowing early on in life that teaching was his passion and having a positive experience with instrumental music growing up, he chose to attend the University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA, graduating with his Bachelor of Music in Education in 2000. For the next 14 years, he taught middle school (and a few classes of high school) instrumental and choral music in Cupertino, CA, taking a year off in 2003 to earn his Master of Music in Education from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. In 2005 he got to open a brand new middle school and grew the program from just over 100 students to over 500 (requiring two more teachers) in the following 8 years. In 2007 he was honored with the Cupertino Union School District Teacher of the Year. In 2014, his Advanced Orchestra was invited to perform at the California State Music Educator's Conference. During the 2014-15 school year, Mr. Lewis and his wife of 15 years, Stacey, decided to sell their home in California and move to Lucca, Italy where they home-schooled their daughters (Ashley, 11 and Arya, 8), explored 12 countries, learned languages, visited historical sites, attended cultural events, and discovered how different people in the world live. As their adventure drew to a close, they found and fell in love with the Pacific Northwest and moved to Lake Oswego. Dave is excited to have found this position at Twality and is anxious to use his experience to develop and grow this already thriving program.
